Waste Disposal

If you have recently purchased a taylormade Biotrap, you will have noticed that it requires no daily maintenance. There are no moving parts, filters or bags to replace and the unit consumes zero electricity. We recommend that the outside of the unit is wiped down periodically with a damp cloth and that the trap is well maintained.

How are our BIOTRAPs® maintained?

Like all grease traps, your Biotrap needs to be emptied throughout the year. Frequency is determined by the 25% rule as stated in I.S EN 1825 parts 1 and 2. Local Authority inspectors routinely inspect all types of grease traps to ensure FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) do not escape the trap on your premises and enter public sewers. These guidelines state “the trap shall be emptied when 25% of the total capacity of the trap is occupied by FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease)”.

The trap should be emptied only by an approved waste disposal contractor with a valid and up to date DCC Permit number. This is a legal requirement. A waste disposal certificate should be issued each time the trap is emptied.  Details should include:

  • Weight
  • Date and time of disposal
  • Location of processing plant
  • Permit numbers.
  • Description of waste
When the grease trap has been emptied and washed down:
  1. Fill with clean water by running the taps.
  2. Ensure the lid is replaced properly.
  3. Ensure all washers and screws have been replaced.
  4. Hand tighten all screws.
  5. Using the allan key provided, tighten each screw to within 50%
  6. Finally, secure all screws to ensure rubber seal between rim and lid is airtight.
